A July 4th Tradition That You CAN Do This Year

A July 4th Tradition That You CAN Do This Year

The pandemic has put a stop to the Bothell 4th of July parade this year, and there is very little we can do to celebrate our country’s freedom. Back in the 50s, and early 60s our community would look forward to gathering at Pop Keeney Field for the 4th of July fireworks after the parade. The fireworks eventually ended for several reasons, but the parades kept ongoing. It is sad to think there will not be anything going on this year. Since the parades usually ended in the vicinity of the Pop Keeney Stadium, it might be a good way to show our appreciation if there were a few flowers, or flags left next to the Veterans Memorial at Pop Keeney Stadium. Below is a picture I just took of the flowers that were left at the memorial on May 25th, Memorial Day. As you can see some of them are still blooming.

If nothing else, maybe adding another small flag to that single pot of flowers, or even adding some more flowers might help celebrate our country’s freedom this year?

The Northshore Veterans Memorial currently has a committee overseeing the way it will be maintained in the future. The committee consists of members from the Northshore School District, the Northshore Schools Foundation, and two of our local VFW Posts I would like to say for the entire committee that we appreciate the positive comments regarding the memorial. Besides honoring our fallen NSD classmates, it also represents the Freedom we have in America and some of the individuals who gave their lives to keep it that way.

If you are aware of any other NSD student who gave their lives in the performance of duty to our country, please go to the following website for information on how to notify us. Thanks, and have a Happy 4th of July!
