Every person deserves food on their plate and a roof over their head.

Unfortunately, hunger and homelessness are a reality for far too many people. The U.S. is the richest nation in the world, but 37 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger and more than 500,000 Americans are homeless on a typical night.

This week, November 12-20th  is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, an annual opportunity to shine a spotlight on the problems of hunger and homelessness and organize our communities to take action.

Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week is an annual program where people come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. This year Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 12- 20

In our Northshore…

Nearly 200 students are identified each year as experiencing homelessness in the Northshore School District.

According to Ana Foy, Northshore School District homeless services coordinator and McKinney-Vento liaison, approximately 55 students have been identified in the first 90 days of school as eligible to receive housing, transportation, and food assistance.

From the Foundation…

During the week, the Foundation will highlight areas of impact directly related to our school community – transportation, food insecurity, and housing.  Learn more about how support is provided through the federal government’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, legislation created to support the enrollment and education of homeless students, and how the Northshore Schools Foundation funds additional assistance to respond to immediate, crisis needs of those experiencing hunger and homelessness in our community.
