Recently, we had the opportunity to chat with Cheryl about the band’s passion and some key details. Keep reading to uncover the story!

What inspired you to start an ABBA cover band?

There is another version of the band called The Spyrographs that plays 60’s spy, pop and surf tunes. We were asked to come up with a set of ABBA tunes at a Swedish Club New Year’s Eve event about 10 years ago. Everyone went bananas and thus The ABBAgraphs were born.

What drew you to ABBA’s music specifically?

It’s greatly crafted pop music written by Benny and Bjorn – a blend of Euro-pop, glam rock and disco with great hooks and amazing vocals by Agnetha and Anni-Frid.

How do you select which ABBA songs to cover?

We select the classic, crowd pleasers off “ABBA Gold” – their greatest hit record. We also do songs off “More ABBA Gold” and deeper cuts that appeal to us musically or were featured in the “Mama Mia” movies.

What kind of preparation goes into putting on an ABBA tribute show?

Wigs and kookie costumes and blue eye shadow.

Are there any particular ABBA songs that are fan favorites or always get the crowd going?

“Dancing Queen” always brings everyone to their feet – a classic for the ages. “Mama Mia” is another fan favorite and “Fernando” inspires a sing along.

Thanks Cheryl for chat!
