Education must evolve as our world is rebuilt, reimagined, and reengaged. It must prepare students for jobs that may not exist today, but will certainly be created for tomorrow. It must provide life-building opportunities for all students, regardless of race, income, or abilities to fulfill their full potential.

With your support, teachers can do just that. They can go beyond the status quo to enhance core curriculum and student learning experiences. You can help inspire teachers and students to achieve higher levels of engagement and achievement.

Classroom Grants

“Being able to bring history to life by getting out in the environment and experiencing it has a profound impact on our students. Beyond the academic benefit of hands-on learning, many SAS students don’t have the means or ability to visit places like Mt. Rainier or hike the Duwamish waterway. It also allows for deeper connections between students and teachers. Spending a day together outside the classroom allows time to talk, listen, learn, and connect with each other. Lastly, it is darn fun to go on a field trip and take advantage of the unique part of the world we live in. Classroom grants bring real-world experiences to students. Grants pay for field trips, learning and attention tools, and hands-on activities. These experiences strengthen creativity and critical thinking skills, encourage fitness, and celebrate music and the arts.

District Grants

“I taught a 5th grade lesson today. I followed the new framework and it was fantastic! I loved learning about Yayoi Kusama and it was so fun to see a child light up with excitement when I said she was from Japan (like he is). And, it was super fun to have a student raise her hand to say that she had been to Kusama’s Infinity Rooms exhibit when it was at the Seattle Art Museum. She was able to give us a first-hand account of them. This is exactly what the revisions to the program were supposed to look like–current, relevant, engaging artists and art in addition to the classics. Thank you!” –Lockwood Art Docent Coordinator

Donors fund District projects that inspire student learning, increase curiosity, and more actively engage student learning, amplifying the core curriculum. Brand new District pilot curriculums increase student achievement by integrating new and relevant practices. Funding means we’re ready to take advantage of innovative opportunities for our students.

Art Spring 2019

We’re proud to be a fiduciary sponsor of ArtSpring.

ArtSpring (adapted art for all abilities) is an arts festival for secondary special needs students in the Functional Skills and Academics (FSA) program at seven District schools, Adult Transitions Program (ATP), and Mid Level Skyview students in Northshore.

ArtSpring gives under-served students a non-competitive experience in and out of the classroom designed just for them. They enjoy a day off campus with an opportunity to experience real-world social interactions while reconnecting with past classmates, teachers, and therapists from the District. For many, it is their very first field trip.

Art specialists bring adapted tools and multi-sensory projects to the classroom and to ArtSpring on festival day. ArtSpring student artists use a variety of media and techniques for their art projects: painting, polymer sculpting, weaving, stamping, beading, collaging, and more!

Community & District Response Fund

We established the Community and District Response Fund to collect and distribute funds in times of community emergency. This fund activates in the event of a District-wide emergency, and lays dormant in times when everything is business as usual.

Funds are overseen by a committee of Northshore Schools Foundation members and members of the Northshore School District Safety & Security Committee. Funds used will be reported back to donors for full transparency. Any unallocated funds remain in the Community and District Response Fund to respond to future incidents.

Most recently, the Community and District Response Fund was activated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide childcare for more than 80 families, as well as other needs.
