Feeling stressed about your plans for next year? Not sure how to apply to college and get the money you need to afford it?  Join us for A Senior’s Guide to College Planning and receive support and resources for a successful college application process.  In these free workshops we will cover choosing colleges to apply to, how to prepare a successful college application, and financial aid.

This workshop will give you a chance to:

  • Reflect on your feelings about applying to college and what your goals are
  • Learn about some popular colleges in Washington and steps to apply, focusing primarily on Washington in-state public universities and community colleges.
  • Make a list of colleges you want to apply to and map out your next steps
  • Learn key information about how to get financial aid

 

Using Naviance to find your right college fit

This workshop will give you a detailed screenshare presentation of what students can do in Naviance to find the right college fit and narrow down their list of schools to apply to. There will be time for questions and answers with a NSD High School Counselor.

 

College Applications 102: Applications workshop

This workshop will continue the work on your list of colleges. We will also dive into how to write effective personal statements, giving you a chance to brainstorm topics, start organizing your thoughts, and make a plan for who you can ask for feedback on your essays. We will also discuss the scholarship search and application process.

 

Affording College: How to submit your FAFSA/WASFA

Are you overwhelmed by the cost of college? We will provide an overview of the most important step you can take to access financial aid: the FAFSA (for citizens and permanent residents) or WASFA (for undocumented students). Get your questions answered and learn about important resources and deadlines. We will go over what grants are available and show example award letters. Parents/guardians and students welcome.
