A brief history of the Foundation – POV 2006

The Northshore Public Education Foundation (NPEF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1995 by a dedicated group of parents and community leaders. The foundation operates independently of the Northshore School District and is solely funded by private contributions. Its main goal is to enhance learning opportunities for all Northshore students.

Over the years, NPEF has achieved its mission by funding projects and programs that aim to achieve academic excellence, support teacher innovation and training, and help all students succeed. The Foundation initially focused on rewarding creative and innovative teaching through grants to teachers. These grants have been awarded to teachers in every school and in all academic areas.

Aside from the grants program, the foundation is committed to equity and has partnered with the school district and community in various ways. One of their initiatives is the Back Packs for Kids program, which provides back-to-school supplies for children in need. The Max Logsdon Scholarship assists students attending the District’s Project Hope alternative education school, while the Feik Family Children’s Fund supports K-12 students with personal and educational needs.

NPEF also collaborates with various organizations and companies to provide opportunities for student and teacher mentoring, staff development in literacy and mathematics, and the purchase of bilingual classroom materials for students learning to speak English. These partnerships include United Way, Bank of America, Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo, Seattle Rotary, Albertsons, and Alaska Smokehouse.

The Northshore Public Education Foundation has been an essential part of the Northshore community for over two decades, striving to ensure that all students have access to quality education regardless of their socio-economic background. By continuing to fund innovative projects and programs, NPEF helps to build a brighter future for Northshore students.
