Enhance & Inspire Learning Grants
Since our founding in 1995, the Foundation has been proud to fund classroom and district grants in the Northshore School District. These grants empower Northshore educators and staff to enhance and inspire students’ learning experiences. We are proud to have provided grants to all 36 schools and programs in the district, supporting innovation and excellence in education in classrooms.
We offer two types of grants: classroom or district wide.
Classroom Grants
All current Northshore educators and staff are eligible to apply for classroom grants, which are intended to fund projects for individual classrooms, grade levels, or multiple grade levels combined.
Here are some examples of the classroom grants we’ve funded:
- Field Trip to Snohomish County Superior Court in Everett: Casey Kellogg, a law teacher at North Creek High School, gave students a firsthand experience of the legal system in action.
- Wobble Stools: Janine Schmoll, a 4th-grade teacher at Sunrise Elementary, introduced new wobble stools to help students engage their senses with a gentle rocking motion, encouraging active sitting.
- Language Books: Andrea Zager, the teacher librarian at Fernwood Elementary, used her grant to provide unique language books that encourage students to share about themselves and connect with their peers.
- Musical Instruments: Elise Harris, a music teacher at Maywood Hills Elementary, introduced a new tenor marimba to inspire students and boost their excitement for practicing and performing.
- Sensory Products: Barb Hudson, a special education teacher at Sorensen Early Childhood Center, provided adaptive, adjustable footrests along with sensory, fidget, and oral chew tools. These resources helped students focus, manage their bodies, and improve their learning experience.
District Grants
Here are some examples of district grants we’ve funded:
- Physics through Evidence, Empowerment through Reasoning (PEER): We piloted PEER in all Northshore high schools. The PEER Physics mission is to “engage students in doing science in the classroom and developing scientific principles from evidence.”
- Bonus Books for the Battle: We granted this project for all Northshore middle and high schools in 2024. Secondary librarians in the Northshore School District facilitate small reading groups at each school, where students read the Evergreen nominee books. These groups then participate in quiz-style competitions at both the school and district levels. To ensure more students have access to these in-demand books before the spring competition, each competing library can now acquire two additional copies of the nominees. This district grant allows a larger number of Northshore students to read and engage with these high-quality books, fostering both literacy and a love for reading.
If you’re a current Northshore educator or staff and want to apply for a grant, please follow the grant application process.
