Build-Skills-for-Life Northshore Schools Foundation

Build Skills for Life

Our Build Skills for Life programs is dedicated to equipping students with the tools and skills they need to thrive after graduation. From pre-K through high school, we fund and support hands-on, real-world experiences and projects that prepare students for their future careers. These opportunities help Northshore students build collaboration skills, take on leadership roles, and tackle challenges with a strategic mindset.

Additionally, we support district-wide career fairs, fostering connections between Northshore students and local businesses and industries.

At the Foundation, we are dedicated to helping all Northshore students succeed after graduation in today’s rapidly changing world.

Career Fairs and Career Days

We support and co-host district-led Career Days and Career Fairs to help all Northshore students explore a wide range of career pathways.

We recognize that early exposure to career possibilities benefits students by sparking intellectual curiosity, fostering new social connections, and helping them discover what truly interests and motivates them. These experiences also help students develop and apply goal-setting skills, empowering them to work toward and achieve their career aspirations.

Dates for Career Days and Career Fairs will be announced in the beginning of each calendar year.

Technology Skills

We actively support and engage with technology, coding, and robotics clubs and programs for Northshore students, classrooms, and educators.

We’re proud to have provided funding for and continue to support Bothell High School Robotics.

“As a teacher at Bothell High School, I’m focused on ensuring that our school—known for its athletics—also stands out as a center of academic excellence, particularly in STEM. This is especially critical as budget cutbacks challenge our ability to compete with private schools for the attention of well-to-do families. By mentoring several afterschool technology programs, I hope to show that Bothell and other Northshore schools continue to offer a world-class academic experience for even the most ambitious students. I’m grateful to the Northshore Schools Foundation for helping me sustain these efforts, and I’m excited to work with them to demonstrate the strength of our public schools.”

Gus Reiber | Bothell high school computer science educator

“I’ve always loved creating things, and robotics allowed me to make things with a real impact. Initially, I joined assuming only to be a programmer, but the robotics club exposed me to so much more. Collaborating with fellow teammates and initiating outreach events in the local community greatly increased my leadership, organization, and commitment. These skills have made me very confident towards my aspirations in college and beyond!”

Nakul Kumar | Bothell high school SENIOR ’25

“Robotics did an excellent job preparing me for college coursework and beyond. I learned a ton in design, programming, manufacturing, and leadership from my time there. The experience has carried over in a major way to my time doing college robotics and preparing for my future career.”

Damon lewis | bothell high school graduate

“I joined robotics mainly to get my mom off my back about joining clubs, not knowing it would turn into a huge part of my high school experience. Joining this team taught me many skills in a wide variety of skills, including hands on manufacturing, programming, and even marketing. Robotics has  brought me closer with many people and has given me the necessary abilities to perform tasks in the fields of STEM. This has also given me the opportunity to share my knowledge with younger students through after school clubs, local community events, and STEM nights.”

Eishan Mohammed | BHS robotics team MEMBER

In the past, the Foundation has received grants from Bristol Myers Squibb, which allowed us to invest in technology for Northshore classrooms.

We have also supported initiatives like Hour of Code and funded STEM programs, including coding clubs and Girls Who Code.

C.P. & Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award

The Northshore School District’s C.P. and Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award was established in 1988 to honor the legacy of Clifford Paul Johnson and his wife Dorothy. Both are long-time Bothell residents and educators, C.P. and Dorothy devoted their lives to enhancing the well-being of children in our community.

Each year, two students from every Northshore school and program are recognized for embodying the qualities of a humanitarian in their school and community. All students are nominated by their principals and are chosen based on their demonstration of Acceptance, Community, and Advocacy.

The Foundation is proud to celebrate and sponsor the C.P. & Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award for the sixth consecutive years.
