Who We Are
Click Here to Read About our We are Northshore Area school age parents, extended community residents, businesses, municipalities, and area-wide supporters of our schools and students. We are the Northshore community, and we seek to enhance educational opportunities for all Northshore students. We enhance educational opportunities through our district-wide fundraising efforts, and use these funds to support critical needs of the Northshore School District. We were originally founded in 1995 as the Northshore Public Education Foundation (NPEF). In 2009, the organization changed its name to the Northshore Schools Foundation (Foundation). We are a non-profit organization that raises funds to promote academic rigor for all Northshore students. Our mission is to enhance educational opportunities for all Northshore students. The Foundation operates separately from the Northshore School District (NSD) and is funded solely through private contributions. We partner with the NSD, individual schools, parent groups, local businesses and corporations and the community-at-large to:
HOW WE RAISE MONEY FOR The Foundation’s two major fundraisers are the “Calling for Kids” phone-a-thon campaign” (November) and the “Light A Fire for Learning” community luncheon (May). Additional fundraising efforts occur throughout the school year. We also receive funds through workplace giving campaigns, corporate partnerships, corporate and business matching funds, and the generosity of hundreds of individual and corporate donors. WHERE THE MONEY GOES (2008-09) Responding to district-wide funding needs identified by the School District, the Foundation awarded $40,000 for elementary schools to purchase leveled readers and new textbooks, and $50,000 for secondary schools to purchase over 1,000 new textbooks in core curriculum subjects for advanced learning classes. In addition, the Foundation awarded over $17,000 to 13 separate schools for 19 innovative Classroom Grants. Over the past 6 years (including our latest 2009-2010 grants), the Foundation has awarded 100 grants totaling more than $100,000. These grants have touched every school and student in the District.
